A post-war town
Most of Borehamwood was built after the Second World War, so the typical home is a 1950s or 1960s house or maisonette, with pockets of 1930s semis and a lot of newer flats around Shenley Road and the station. There is a damp patch on the wall where our pipes are boxed in. What do I do?
Many post-war Borehamwood houses have their pipes behind boxing in corners and along skirtings. A damp patch on that boxing usually means a slow leak from a joint or valve inside. Turn the water off if it is spreading, and call us; we open the boxing where needed and put it back afterwards.
Why is our hot water fine downstairs but weak upstairs?
A combi fitted onto pipework designed for a tank and cylinder can be starved by narrow old pipes. Scale in the combi or the shower valve, and a partly closed stopcock, make it worse.
Water is coming from the flat above in a new block near the station. Who turns it off?
If the flat above is empty, the managing agent or concierge, because the riser valves are usually in locked cupboards outside the flats. Call them and us at the same time.
