What does an outside tap cost fitted?
£130 fitted where the kitchen supply is on the other side of the wall; longer runs quoted after a look. Isolation valve and check valve included, they're the point.
Mine split over winter, why?
A hose left connected traps water in the tap body, and without an internal isolator the tap held mains pressure all winter. The replacement includes the isolator so it doesn't happen twice.
Can it feed a garden office?
A tap can't, but the same connection method scales, buried MDPE with proper depth and insulation. Ask for the garden supply quote instead.
Will it freeze in winter?
It can, which is why we fit an internal isolation valve as standard. Turn it off in November, open the outside tap to drain the run, and there is nothing left in the pipe to freeze. That single valve is the difference between a working tap and a burst wall pipe.
Can I have one on a flat or a first floor?
Usually yes, teed off a nearby cold supply, though in a leasehold flat it is worth checking the lease before drilling through an external wall. We will tell you what the run would involve before you commit.
Do I need a water meter reading changed?
No. An outside tap draws from the same supply and is measured the same way. If you are metered it is worth knowing that garden watering is the single largest thing most households add to their bill.
Does London water affect what you would fit?
It shapes it. At 280 to 320 ppm, scale shortens the life of anything with a moving part in it, so we specify for hard water rather than fitting whatever is cheapest, ceramic cartridges that tolerate scale, isolation valves so the inevitable service is a short job, and a scale reducer on the main where the property warrants it.
