Most washing machine floods trace to a hose that was hand-tightened, a waste that was pushed in rather than clipped, or transit bolts nobody removed.
Washing machine installation in London: what the price includes
- Valve, hose and waste done properly. A proper self-cutting or lever valve on the supply, a hose with new washers torqued rather than gripped, and a standpipe or spigot with a trap and a clip. Every one of those is where the flood we get called to actually started.
- Transit bolts removed. Left in, they wreck the drum bearings within weeks and void the warranty. It is the single most common self-installation error and it is not covered by anyone.
- Levelled on the feet, not on packers. A machine that walks at spin is a machine slowly disconnecting its own hoses. Feet adjusted and locked, and checked on a full spin before we leave.
- Integrated and under-worktop units. Kitchen carriers, door alignment and a waste that has to run further than it should, done as a fitting job rather than a shove. Tight-fit installations are where a hose gets kinked and fails a year later.
- Tested on a full cycle. We run it, watch the fill, watch the drain, and check every joint under load. Nobody finds a slow weep by looking at a dry connection.

Two London specifics. Hard water means the machine will scale its element unless detergent dosing and any inline treatment are set for 280 to 320 ppm, which materially affects how long it lasts. And in flats and conversions, appliance waste is often teed into an existing run without a proper trap or air admittance, which is why so many London kitchens have a smell that nobody can trace back to the machine that caused it. We fit the waste properly rather than into the nearest available spigot.

Questions people ask
Can I just install it myself?
Often, yes. The cases worth paying for are a new supply valve, a waste that does not exist yet, an integrated unit, or a flat where a leak reaches a neighbour. That last one is why most of our London appliance calls come from flats.
How much does washing machine installation cost?
There is no call-out charge. It is £110 for the first hour, then £45 for each additional half hour, plus the cost of parts, and the same at any hour of the day or night.
Can you take the old one away?
Yes, disconnected, drained and removed for recycling for a small additional charge. Draining first matters; an old machine holds several litres.
My machine leaks only sometimes, why?
Almost always the drain rather than the fill: a waste hose pushed too far into the standpipe siphons, or an unclipped hose lifts under pressure. Both look perfect when the machine is off.
