Emergency Plumber in Archway
Pipe burst in a terrace off Junction Road, water through the ceiling in a flat by the junction, or the top floor dry on Highgate Hill? Call 07861 933265 or WhatsApp a photo. We charge no call-out fee, a person answers round the clock, and we are usually in N19 within 60 minutes.
Turn it off: in a Victorian house the stopcock is often in a cupboard under the stairs or just inside the front door. In a flat in a converted tower or a newer block, look for a valve near the kitchen or in the meter cupboard on your landing.
A road, a bridge and the hills around them
Archway takes its name from the road. Archway Road was cut between 1810 and 1813 so traffic could avoid the climb up Highgate Hill, and the cast-iron Hornsey Lane Bridge has carried Hornsey Lane over it since 1900. Houses went up beside the road in the later 19th century, and the station opened in 1907. Today N19 runs from the busy junction by Vantage Point up towards Highgate, Crouch End and Dartmouth Park.
Plumbing on a slope
The hills shape the problems here. Tall houses near the top of Highgate Hill and Hornsey Lane can struggle for pressure on their upper floors, especially with an old lead or narrow supply pipe. Houses lower down take the run-off from the roads above, so their drains work hardest in a storm. A drain that blocks or overflows more than once needs a look with a camera, not just rods; see drain repairs.
Flats by the junction
Around the station and Junction Road there are flats in converted offices, including Vantage Point, the former Archway Tower, and in purpose-built blocks. Pipes inside each flat are usually the owner’s, and the risers belong to the building, so a leak on one floor can reach the flat below before anyone knows. If that is happening now, see water through the ceiling.

Questions people ask
Our water pressure is weak on the top floor but fine downstairs. Is that normal up here?
It is common on the hills. Water loses pressure with every metre it climbs, so top floors of tall houses up Highgate Hill or Hornsey Lane feel it first, and an old narrow supply pipe makes it worse. We measure the pressure and flow at the stopcock and tell you whether it is the supply, the pipe or something inside the house.
Our flat is in Vantage Point, the old Archway Tower. Can you work there?
Yes. In a converted tower the pipes inside your flat are usually yours to repair and the risers are the building's. Tell the concierge or managing agent we are coming, and if water is escaping, ask them where the floor's isolation valve is.
Water comes up through the drain in our basement when it rains hard. Why?
Houses at the bottom of a slope collect water from the roads above, and an old drain can surcharge in a heavy storm. A camera survey shows whether your drain is damaged or just overwhelmed, and whether a non-return valve would help.
How much is a plumber in Archway?
No call-out charge. £110 for the first hour, £45 per half hour after, plus parts, day or night.
