  First they ask what happened and read the fault code. Then they check the simple things: gas supply, power, pressure and the controls. After that the case comes off and they test the part the code points to, with a meter, not a guess. Once the faulty part is found, you get a fixed price in writing before anything is changed. Most repairs are done there and then, because the common parts are on the van. Finally the boiler is fired up, the gas and flue readings are checked, and you are shown the old part. Every boiler engineer we send is Gas Safe registered and employed by us, not a subcontractor.
